Vehicle Tracking: It's brilliant - if you know how to do it.

Some time ago we were appointed to run a pilot scheme involving the installation of 10 telematic units in a fleet of around 300 vehicles. After 3 months the results were astonishing: fewer accidents, better treatment of vehicles, and a dramatic decrease of 41% in the average cost of accident repairs - across the whole fleet.

Now some might say that's not the experience they have had. A common observation is there was an improvement in the beginning until drivers returned to their old driving habits. However they were locked into contracts and it soon became an expensive overhead of limited value.

The bit that many overlook is that vehicle tracking should be thought of as a program with systems designed to monitor and influence driver behaviour for the continued safety of employees while carrying out their duties in a mobile workspace.

The pilot program we designed and introduced was taken over by the client and more vehicles were fitted with tracking units. Unfortunately without the rigour of our support the program drifted and became less effective. The average repair cost over the next three months returned to where it had been.

We know what works - what can be measured can be managed. If you are thinking of adopting a tracking solution for your fleet it would be a wise choice to contact us to assist with the development of the complete program you need to make telematics work for your fleet.
